Launching the world's first advertising-funded bike parking
Bikeloop and Clear Channel have entered into a partnership to offer secure bicycle parking at no cost to developers and municipalities. The first advertising-funded bicycle parking solution is now in place at the entrance to Tjuvholmen in Oslo.
– We can now offer secure bicycle parking that makes it possible for Norwegian cities to facilitate increased cycling without burdening their own budgets. The bicycle parking houses protect against both theft and weather, and are an important part of the future of urban mobility, says Nils Li, Business Development & Operation Director at Clear Channel.
Safety and sustainability in focus
With bicycles becoming increasingly expensive, the need for secure parking is greater than ever. In 2023, bicycle thefts cost cyclists and insurance companies over 166 million kroner, and the costs are rising by at least 10 percent annually. Bikeloop and Clear Channel are meeting this challenge with closed and secure bicycle parking houses that protect the bikes against both theft and harsh Norwegian weather conditions.
Hedda Heyerdahl, founder of Bikeloop, emphasizes the importance of secure bicycle parking in promoting green mobility and sustainable cities.
– Bicycles are in the process of replacing cars in many Norwegian households. Our solution ensures secure parking for all types of bicycles. By combining sustainable infrastructure with inclusive design and user-friendly solutions, we make cycling an attractive alternative to cars – while also contributing to reaching national environmental goals, says Heyerdahl.
A solution for cities, developers, and cyclists
Advertising-funded bicycle parking houses give municipalities and developers a new opportunity to increase bicycle usage and reduce car traffic without large investments. Bikeloop and Clear Channel are now inviting more Norwegian municipalities and players in the real estate sector to take part in the initiative.
Eline Oftedal, Secretary General of the Cyclist Association, believes the solution is an important step in the right direction:
– This initiative makes it easier and safer to park bicycles, and contributes to more people choosing bikes as their mode of transport. Increased cycling reduces traffic problems and promotes green mobility, says Oftedal.
Secure parking in 30 seconds
With the Bikeloop app, cyclists can pre-book parking and use the bicycle parking house at Tjuvholmen. The solution is designed to meet the needs of all cyclists – including those with reduced mobility – and accommodates both large and small bicycles. Here, the bicycle can be parked along with helmet and belongings in a quick, simple, and secure way.
– Let us together make cycling a safe, sustainable, and practical choice for all residents. The bike cities of the future need secure bicycle houses – and that future starts now, says Hedda Heyerdahl.
