New pilot facility at Høvik Center - safe bicycle parking connected to shops

Bikeloop has established a new pilot facility at Høvik Center in collaboration with Centra Eiendom. The facility will test how safe and smart bicycle parking at shopping centers and retail locations can make it easier for customers to choose bicycles over cars.

The pilot project consists of a Bikeloop CUBE, a compact and secure solution with four individual spaces, developed especially for short-term parking in retail areas. Each user gains access via the Bikeloop app, allowing them to lock up their bike safely while shopping.

– "We want to make it easier to combine shopping and cycling. Many leave their bikes at home because they lack a safe place to park. With CUBE at Høvik Center, customers get a safe, simple, and digital solution – exactly where the need arises," says Richard Dirdal, Managing Director at Bikeloop.

Collaboration with Høvik Center Property

The project has been developed in close collaboration with Høvik Center Property, which owns and operates Høvik Center. The collaboration marks an important step towards more green and accessible mobility at local shopping spots.

Testing usage and behavior

The pilot at Høvik Center is part of Bikeloop's ongoing R&D program, where the company, in collaboration with property owners, employers, and municipalities, tests various concepts for safe and smart bike parking.
The purpose of the project is to measure user behavior, frequency, and willingness to pay related to short-term parking in retail areas. The experiences from Høvik will form the basis for future rollouts at other shopping centers and local shopping streets.

– "We see a great potential to integrate bike parking directly into the shopping experience. This is not just about the environment – it is about creating attractive, modern, and accessible places where people want to spend time," says Richard Dirdal.
